These botanical prints are made from the original illustrations I
did for the book, Medicine From the Mountains: Medicinal Plants of the
Sierra Nevada by Kimball Chatfield. They are printed on a
linen-textured paper and come in black and white or hand-tinted. The hand-tinting is iridescent green and gold. The color is very
subtle, shifting with the changing light. Straight on, the plants will appear
to be in black.
The original illustrations are pen and ink stipple rendered with a .00025
technical pen. (Yes, there are thousands of dots!) I start a
botanical piece by finding live specimens and photographing them. I use
live samples in conjunction with the photos I take whenever possible to
retain the essence of the plant in the drawing.
The prints are double matted, signed by the artist (me!) and will fit in a
5”x7” frame. Your prints will arrive in acid free sleeves. Included
with each print is historical medicinal usage for the plants chosen. There are limited quantities available on each item and they're
already going fast. Purchases over $25 will receive a surprise gift for
helping me clear out my studio!
